Hi, I'm Mallory Whitfield!

I’m a marketing mentor and small business coach for high-achieving, multi passionate creative business owners who want to develop marketing strategies that are aligned with their own business needs and personal goals + values.

I started my first handmade business way back in 2004, and along the way, I taught myself all about digital marketing and how to run a business. I learned marketing the hard way, making a LOT of mistakes along the way.

In 2014, I switched to a full-time career in digital marketing. Since then, I've worked with hundreds of artists, creative entrepreneurs, and small businesses, teaching workshops on SEO, e-commerce, blogging, social media & email marketing at events like Craftcation and New Orleans Entrepreneur Week. As Adjunct Professor at Tulane University's School of Professional Advancement, I taught & developed classes on Digital Media Principles & Strategy and Creating Digital Content.

If the last two decades have taught me anything, it's that there is no one-size-fits-all marketing strategy.

Let's work together to determine the strategy that's best for YOU.

“Mallory has created a thorough and incredibly useful marketing program in the Badass Creatives Marketing Accelerator. I’ve taken some marketing courses before that gave good tips or focused on certain aspects of marketing, but Mallory’s program is in-depth, holistic and relatable, and allowed me to create a really solid and detailed action plan.

She also offers Office Hours during the program to discuss anything that comes up as you work through the material and very personalized feedback on the “homework” assignments. This homework is a really valuable aspect of the course and leads you to really apply the teachings to your own business. She goes above & beyond with sharing resources she’s accumulated through her own experience as a creator. I highly recommend working with her!”
— Justine Diamond, perfumer, aromatherapist & creator of Elspeth’s Airs

“Mallory was instrumental to the early days of my business — in fact, she was one of the first people I came to for advice when I was preparing to launch my online store. Later, once the business had grown, I came to her for consulting again. Her marketing advice was right on the money — she offered clear answers to my questions and made navigating the (sometimes confusing and intimidating) world of SEO a breeze. We had a lot of fun coming up with ideas for social media promotions, as well! And, most importantly, my store has seen a real increase of traffic as a result of her efforts.”
— Hope Kodman VonStarnes, founder & co-owner at Dynamo
“For years, I felt paralyzed by the myriad of possible directions and choices in starting my creative business. Within fifteen minutes of speaking to Mallory, a light went off and I’ve been laser focused ever since!”
— Sally Ray, owner & designer at 8th Ray Design and Zombolina's Cabinet of Curiosities

The Badass Creatives Marketing Accelerator is NOT another online course.

It’s a mentorship + curated mastermind community specially designed for creative business owners.

It includes group coaching sessions, a community of your peers, and exercises to help you identify what will work best for you and your unique business.

You'll be supported with:

  • Group coaching sessions, live via Zoom including:

    • Monthly Office Hours

    • Quarterly Seasonal Planning Sessions

  • Worksheets + journaling prompts to bring you clarity in your branding, marketing, and creative vision

    • (Many students have found these worksheets to be the most useful part of the program!)

  • Feedback about your worksheets via the community forum

  • Community of your creative peers, which BTW is not a Facebook group. (But the platform it's hosted on is just as easy to use.)

  • Classroom with resources, lessons and Strategy Session recordings

  • The comfort of knowing you have a safe, supportive place to ask questions and get feedback about your business

Plus, I continue to add more resources inside BCMA based on the needs of the community throughout the year.

If you're feeling overwhelmed or confused by marketing your business and ready for a change, the Badass Creatives Marketing Accelerator is perfect for you.

My goal is to help you discover for yourself the answers that are right for you and your business.

I'm here to be a sounding board for you. I’ll offer support, advice and guidance, and when I don't know the answer, I'll try to help you find the people and resources who do.

I know the experiences that have helped me the most in my own creative journey. They've been the interactive ones. The ones where I got to know other people who were on journeys that were very similar and yet so different than my own. Where I got to learn from and with those people, as we shared our own perspectives, and realized together that we're not alone.

Learn From My Decades of Entrepreneurial Experience

I’m a 3rd generation entrepreneur & small business owner. I was destined for this.

I started blogging in 2001 and I began running my own business and selling at craft shows in 2004.

I launched my company as a blog, Miss Malaprop, in 2006, and within the first month of the website’s launch, I got a mention in Bust Magazine’s weekly email newsletter. (That was the first of many mentions in local and national press!)

Miss Malaprop later evolved into an e-commerce shop and pop-up retail venue for handmade and eco-friendly products.

In 2013, I wrote and self-published a book, How to Make Money at Craft Shows, based on what I learned during 10+ years of selling at art markets and craft fairs.

In 2014, I shifted my focus and began working professionally in marketing, as well as speaking, teaching and consulting other entrepreneurs on digital marketing topics.

At digital marketing agency FSC Interactive, I specialized in search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing, email marketing, and content marketing, and I also trained our small business clients in digital marketing skills.

I also served as Marketing Specialist for Aeolidia, a top-ranked agency that develops Shopify ecommerce websites and offers logo and brand identity design services for creative product-based businesses.

As Adjunct Professor at Tulane University's School of Professional Advancement, I taught & developed classes on Digital Media Principles & Strategy and Creating Digital Content.

In 2015, Gambit named me one of 5 Local Instagrammers To Follow, and in 2016, I was honored to be included in the 19th class of Gambit’s 40 Under 40, which salutes the brightest innovators, artists and professionals in New Orleans.

I’ve also been featured in numerous tv appearances, podcasts, books, and print publications, including BUST Magazine, WWL-TV, Forbes, VICE, Gambit Weekly, Wharton Business Radio on Sirius XM, The Times-Picayune, and many more.

“Mallory has been an invaluable resource – helping me substantially increase my audience size and engagement. Prior to working with Mallory, I felt discouraged by a lack of audience engagement and the extremely slow and sporadic uptick in my audience size.

After two hours with Mallory, I implemented some key changes in my approach to digital marketing. Just a week and half later, I’m blown away by the level of engagement I’m seeing from readers and viewers, and my audience is steadily increasing.

While I find digital marketing and online self promotion a bit exhausting, Mallory made it straightforward and tangible. I saw immediate results as a product of our work together and recommend her enthusiastically to anyone interested in increasing their reach.”
— Lelia Gowland, speaker, writer & executive coach
